The Challenge was brought to an end on the 23rd January and the results were assessed by the judges online

We only invited those with sufficient chance of winning to enter the final stage to limit the work required

So Pottsy, Lyles and Salty were invited to submit 3 fish for judging, of at least 2 of the varieties they were given at the start of the competition and together with their online updates an assessment was made.

Criteria for the judges covered 2 areas:
    • firstly the quantity and quality of the updates
    • secondly the fish individually and as a group of 3.
    • the quality of the pictures was specifically discounted as we appreciate not everyone can take "good" fish pics
Updates were awarded 1 point for every month, and an additional point if they felt a particular update warrented it. A further 5 points was awarded if the competitor had posted an update every month from the challenge start.

    Fish were assessed on
    • Impression
    • Shape
    • Colour/ pattern
    • Fins
    • Eyes
Nice and simple, with 5 points available for each category

So the judges were not biassed the fis were allocated numbers and posted by me.

They were then assessed as a group, with 5 points for the best group, 3 for second and 1 for third.

Final results of the aggregate score for the fish, the group and the Challenge updates is

    First place Pottsy Group 2
    Second Place Lyles Group 3
    Third place Salty Group 1

Overall the scores were very close, with Pottsy just piping the top spot :)

Congratulations to all 3, i know how difficult this can be

My thanks to those who took part, especially those who actually posted updates and completed the challenge, and especially to Clive Brampton and Northants Discus for supplying the fish to make this challenge possible

Cheers Jon, well done to all who completed the challenge. Now to pair the buggers off so that they can pay for the 5* treatment that they have had over the past year.
Also thanks to Mike and Clive.

Been a learning curve raising these as never raised from juvie to large adults.
Definitely going to be raising more
Thanks Mike and all the mentors too,a lot of time and effort must have gone into all this. And also the quality of the fish to start from ,from Clive.

Just a shame there isn't a female yellow to pair up with.
Have any of your yellows paired?

Two of the yellows, but both female. They are smaller than the other fish thou. Will be looking for some males in the coming months.

True, but too far as you say. Besides, having a go with a couple of pairs of BSSS for a few months.
