    Hey!

I am Pavlos and in less than a month I will move in London as a PhD student (I am coming from Greece). I have been owning discus for about 8 years and right now I am selling my last discus here (really sad feeling). That is why I would like to keep my hobby alive when I come there.

I would like to know how things go up there with the discus hobby and if it is possible take some advices on the following matters. I am thinking of making a small cube (180 liters) which will be bare bottom for discus growing as I would like to take them young.

Where shall I look for the aquarium tank and filter? Is the water in London ok for discus or shall I buy an R/O? What's the prices like for the above as my salary won't be really big :p

At this time I do not care for the fish as I know you have many shops that bring discus from great breeders and as I have seen you as hobbyists breed very beautiful discus, so I will find my way on this problem later.

Thanks a lot for your time!

Water in London is very hard. I personally started using this hard water for all my fish above 3'' in size without problems.
If you want aquarium and filters at good prices first look here to see if people are selling something, then ebay and aquarist classifieds website .

Alright thank you very much. So I suppose that the water will be fine as 3-4" is a nice size of discus to start with! Do you have any specific suggestions on discus shops? I could not resist my self asking !

Never buy discus from shops in UK, the quality is very poor and prices are high. Best buy from breeders directly. I very often have some for sale myself but just ask the question later, before you buy and see who is closer to you.

I think that you have some shops that bring discus from famous breeders (stendker, Ricky lim, na discus even tony tan in Scotland if I am not mistaken). Here in Greece it is true that we do not have very good discus because they come in very high prices that can not be easily supported. Does the same happen in the U.K.?

Yes, you got some specialist shops. I meant that do not buy from regular aquatic centres.

Alright I get it. May I ask something more, are there any guys or shops that make aquariums in the dimensions that you want and are trustful?
